I teach English Literature, English composition and Academic Writing for the Sciences. I created a Medieval Studies program for my graduate degree and my BA minor is in botany. My area of research is the use of herbs and their allegorical representations in medieval manuscripts. I have taken those same concepts and applied them to modern literature.  My children are grown but we have 4 fluffy children who dominate the house.I enjoy outdoorsy things, I am part of a medieval reenactment society and a complete and total nerd (Live Long and Prosper).
I will admit that when it comes to computers, I am not savvy in any shape or form; however, I am determined to learn how to teach on-line. I have used Blackboard as a tool every semester but I would not say that the use of a computer in teaching is my strong point other then the use of PowerPoints. Therefore, I am fairly excited to be learning and my goal is to be more comfortable and challenge myself.

Oh Aly -- SCA? or other? Fabulous! I have many friends in the North Star Needlework Guild who are also part of the ‘local’ medieval reenactment society.

You’ll enjoy quite a bit of what you will be exposed to. It will be a wild ride; remember to breathe. You say you’re not computer savvy, but you must be tenacious to have created a Medieval Studies program. Bring that strength with you and you will succeed.

Yes, the SCA. I am terrible with needle work and have created many an embroidery mutation. Thanks for the encouragement. During interviews and during the “What are your weaknesses?” section, I always mention that I naturally destroy electronics. The gift runs in my family :) I think we all put out high EMF’s. How familiar are you with the SCA is it just from knowing people? I am excited about the classes. I always enjoy pushing my own boundaries!
